The Jesse Tree Journey

For Bible Study at school (Remember, I’m home schooled), we read an advent book, leading up to Jesus’ birthday. The word “advent” comes from a Latin word and means “coming,” and Christmas is “coming.” I will give you a reading for the first day (November 29th):

Isa 11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
Isa 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him– the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD–
Isa 11:3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;
Isa 11:4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
Isa 11:5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

  • Isaiah 11:1:A shoot (Jesus) will come up from the stump of Jesse (David’s Dad), from his roots a Branch (Jesus) will bear fruit.
  • Isaiah 11:2: Holy Spirit will rest on Him (Jesus)– Holy Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Holy Spirit of counsel and of might, Holy Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord–
  • Isaiah 11:3: and he (Jesus) will delight in the fear of the LORD. He (Jesus) will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;
  • Isaiah 11:4: but with righteousness he (Jesus) will judge the needy, with justice he (Jesus) will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He (Jesus) will strike the earth with the rod of his (Jesus’) mouth; with the breath of his lips he (Jesus) will slay the wicked.
    Isa 11:5 Righteousness will be his (Jesus) belt and faithfulness the sash around his (Jesus) waist.
